This is a concept sketch for gamebook project (think Fighting Fantasy or Lone Wolf) I am working on.

The text says "Monsters Of The Red Tyrant" in swedish.

I will translate it into english if I publish it here.

The story takes place in the land known as Takasiet, which is now under attack by a warlord calling himself the Red Tyrant.

You will take the role of Ma-Gi, a sorceress whose mentor Dak-Ma was taken by mind-controlled thundering devils.

In this book you can also recruit Companions, party members basically.

The story-important ones include your familiar Vin-Koh, and the dragons Starke and Rödla.

I might include optional companions, but they would not get specifically referred to in the story much beyond that, though that might make them come across as superflous, so I have still not decided if i should make one-off characters like Albert the Abaki recruitable yet.

I plan on writing about 120-ish numbered entries.

The Combat in the game works like this.

  • You and the Enemy have Health, Attack and Defense.
  • Health is a combination of your thoughness and your stubborness, Attack boosts the damage you do, and Defense reduces it.
  • Combat is divided in rounds where you choose either yourself, or a Companion, who fights the Enemy.
  • Each character gets an ability they can activate at the start of their round, such as Starke being able to spend 10 Health to give all members of the Party +2 Defense each.
  • After the start of the round, you roll 1D6+Attack for yourself and 1D6+Attack for the Enemy, which determines how much Damage you inflict to each-other.
  • You can spend 1 or more Defense points whenever you or a Companion take Damage, which reduces it by 5 for each point. If an Enemy has any points in Defense, they will spend 1 point every time the take Damage.
  • In Combat you may also choose to use a Berserk Roll instead of a normal Combat Roll, where you roll 2D6+Attack for both sides, instead of 1D6+Attack.

All characters in the book are based on yugioh cards, but with different in-universe names, part of the fun will be about guessing who is based on what.

I create characters by converting a card like this: Take the monsters ATK, and divide it by 100 for the characters starting Attack stat.

Health is detemined by first taking the cards Level times 10, then it's DEF divided 100, and combining the numbers.

As an example, Vin-Koh, based on Winged Kuriboh, starts with 12 Health and 3 Attack.

Defense, unlike the card game, is more representing how agile or evasive someone is, rather than how tanky they are, so Vin-Koh starts with a lot of Defense to spend, if he partakes in Combat.

If i post the story here then it would have to be as two separate posts, as it has too much text for only one.

I have plans on writing it a bit more in the coming weeks, so it could take some time before I post it here.

This gamebook is also dedicated to the late creator of Yu-Gi-Oh, Kazuki Takahashi, whose work inspired the characters and creatures of this book, and I hope he rests in peace.

The setting, Takasiet, is named after him as a tribute.

Rest in peace, Kazuki Takahashi.

The first one, The Spider-Slayer, is pretty much done in terms of story, i just need to polish the artwork before it's ready.

The antagonists are Goblin-spiders, which as the name suggests, are big spiders that love eating Goblins, a lot.

The second story is about a Lindworm that challenges Camera to a duel to see if he deserves to call himself a "dragonslayer".

She carries an axe made of a rare and durable blue stone from her collection.

The third one is about the intended main villain, Arrdun, Allfather of Arachnids.

He is a Half-Troll that made a deal with the Emperor of Demons to gain immortality, and make any Demon he summons obey him.

His most feared attribute is his staff, not because he uses it to cast Spells, but because he uses it to bludgeon his foes to mush!

He also has a Goblin-spider at his side named Gunn, who wears a small crown to signify her status.

In this setting, the first universe was conquered by a sorcerer so mighty that he became Urbock, Emperor of Demons, and transformed his universe into the Demon-world, also known as Hell.

The Gods don't want another potential Urbock to appear, so they created a new universe where fate will turn against those who rely too much on sorcery, causing them misfortune, danger, and decent chance of being hunted down by monsters or angry buff people with swords.

In this one she faces her arch-enemy, The Dragoness.

A superhero whose design is inspired by flying dragon lizards.

Her "wings" look like a cape when relaxed, and can tell she's cool with those fancy red shades.

First of all, happy new year!

The pic above is unfinished, but should soon be ready for the art portal.

General info about the characters.

Snokarmilla: She is not very good at being a "real villain", and is generally more of a petty thief or prankster.

Things like stealing a single glove, tying another persons shoelaces together, or taping a note on their back that reads "Throv eggsss at me!" in big text.

She became a villain because she got told she could never be a beautiful damsel that gets saved by a handsome hero, because she's "bald" and ugly, which is also why she wears a wig.

Rateluis: A big, intimidating walking fuse of a crook, he was originally a honey badger at a zoo that got bitten by a radioactive steroid user, and then bit back.

While he often threatens his employees when angry, he does not kill them.

Partially because their world operates on a lot of cartoon logic, so people are way harder too kill than it seems, and because murdering employees is bad for business.

Making them feel horrible pain, however, is a different matter.

Stinka: A rat-like woman who would be Rateluis' favourite employee if not for one problem.

Stinka is very likely to screw up whatever plan she partakes in, due to always wanting it to be more evil than necessary.

Bottus: A robotic alien whose memory got ruined when he crashed on planet Stone, were the others live.

He is not very smart, but he is loyal as hell.

He also likes kisses.

She's trying to explain a new plan to her short-tempered boss, Rateluis.

He seems unconvinced.

I have also given her a slight redesign.

An illustration inspired by old monster-movie posters.

Snakerilla is a kaiju of unknown origin who looks like a blend of snake and gorilla, possesing great toughness and strength, venom and durable scales, and a humanlike intellect.

That last trait has led to the theory that she was not originally a snake or gorilla, but a human before her mutation.

On her shoulder stands a human to demonstrate her size.

The Metal Demons are mechanical monsters created by the cruel scientist known as Doctor Modeus.

The one Snakerilla destroyed is Metal Demon: Alastor, and the ones in the background are various types of Metal Demon: Malebranche.

Will be posted in the art portal once it's finished!

Cool robot.

The design is not fully finished, but i do like it, basically a big mechanical draconic monsterslaying machine.

In my Cosmic Halberd setting, monsters can only be slain if you put yourself at risk of them.

When it comes to truly giant monsters, like kaiju, it means the most consistently effective way to kill a giant monster is with a big badass robot.

Sadly these mechs are very expensive, mostly due to the high cost of the fuel, and some monsterslaying guilds instead try to manipulate giant monsters into fighting eachother as a more budget-friendly alternative, which can work, but is also very dangerous, especially if one or more of the monsters survive their fight.

The robot's weapon is meant to be a hybrid between a halberd and a swordstaff/chopping spear.

Safirion has a fake pilot in the head, which is meant as a distraction, so monsters will not focus on the thicker torso where the real pilot is controlling the machine.

Safirion can regenerate parts of itself by spending large amounts of energy, but it should be done sparingly, as to prevent it from running out of juice in the middle of combat.

It can also ROCKET PUNCH! with it's claws, and pull them back with strong metal wires, or something similarly long and tough, like a thick cable.
